A Fragrance Spring Clean

A Fragrance Spring Clean article by Laura Pearson

As nature and life awakens with the beginning of spring, it’s the perfect time for a new start. Think of spring fragrances not just in terms of delicate florals and botanicals; but of simply adding new scents to your collection to replace the tired ones – a fragrance spring clean. This is an opportunity not just for your personal scents, but scents for the home too.

Wings of Wisdom – A Watchful Eye Candle (£80 from Wings of Wisdom)

When you buy a Wings of Wisdom candle, you’re not just purchasing a uniquely blended, luxurious scent; but an ornament for your home too. All of their candles are housed in weighty fine bone china jars, adorned with 22 carat gold etchings. Each fragrance has it’s own illustration; allowing them to becomes collector’s items to decorate your home or office with.

A Watchful Eye is a scent that’s designed to reminisce with. To be enveloped and comforted by past memories; whilst also creating anticipation for new ones. It will soothe your soul and spark your senses, with its blend of Ylang Ylang, pink laurel, plum, vanilla, iris, rose, jasmine, geranium and green jasper. It embodies spring with its delicate floral notes and with its symbolism of a place between the past and new beginnings.

Oswald & Grey – Spindel Candle (£54 from Oswald & Grey)

The beautiful Spindel scent from Oswald & Grey has a multitude of layers to it. It’s floral, gourmand and musky; creating something that’s very unique and instantly recognisable. It’s designed to be symbolic of traditions that live on – both through the years and through the seasons. Enveloped in this scent is a place to feel at home. You get the spring freshness of a beautiful English country garden in full bloom, alongside the comfort of warm, sugary treats and afternoon tea.

Spindel has top notes of lemon, apple, pink pepper and sweet coconut; a heart of lily, rose and violet and a base of sugar, cinnamon and tonka bean.

Electimuss – Aurora Travel Set (£135 from Electimuss)

This is a brand that is the definition of luxury – from its packaging and bottle design, to the quality of its fragrances. Aurora is a fragrance that will forever garner questions from passers by as to what it is. It’s a spicy, woody, floral scent that’s bold, heady and rich.

Top notes of oud and cardamom mix with a heart of rose and patchouli and a base of musk and ambergris. It’s not a scent for the faint-hearted; but instead for those intending to boldly go into the new season and all that it offers.

The travel set contains one luxurious gold and purple atomiser case, as well as three refill sprays of Aurora to slip inside; allowing you to take Aurora with you wherever you go.

This fresh, awakening scent is the embodiment of spring. You can bring your herb garden inside with this mind-focussing blend of mint and eucalyptus. This aromatic, botanical blend is designed to ignite your senses and revive your spirit. It’s clean, crisp and fresh.

Nest diffusers kick off just the right amount of scent – to be noticeable; but not dominate a room. The scent from this blend of high quality essential oils, is evenly diffused for a period of 90 days and the striped glass jar looks elegant in any room.

Parfums de Marly –  Delina La Rosée Eau de Parfum (£215 from Selfridges)

Delina La Rosée is one of those fragrances that will make you fall head-over-heels from the first spritz. Like the spring season, it’s all about nature and is beautifully feminine. It celebrates the union of the sky, water and the earth. A twist on the brand’s cult Delina fragrance, Delina La Rosée feels almost younger in spirit with a stronger focus on its Turkish rose note. It’s fresh, vibrant and mood-boosting.

Top notes of bergamot, lychee and pear mix with a heart of Turkish rose, peony and water flowers. At the base are notes of soft wood, white musk and vetiver. The quality of the essences and oils is seen with the long-lasting impact of this elegant scent, that seems to linger endlessly in the air and on clothing.

Prada – Paradoxe Eau de Parfum (£92 from Boots)

Only recently launched, this fragrance has already achieved cult status. Not only is its bottle a sustainable work of art that’s coveted by any designer fashion label lover, but its scent is a very likeable, glorious bouquet of femininity. It’s designed to celebrate femininity in all its forms. Women being uniquely themselves and multi-dimensional. This is symbolised with a floral fragrance that’s hard to pin down. One that contains almost contradictory notes living in harmony and speaking volumes.

Top notes of pear, tangerine and bergamot; mix with middle notes of orange blossom, fresh Neroli and Jasmine Sambac. At its base are notes of warming bourbon vanilla, amber, white musk and benzoin. A scent that seems to smell different but still the same every time you wear it.
