In this article we share the Surprising Facts About Botox You Didn’t Know
We spoke to Shelly Woods, an Advanced Aesthetics Practitioner & Founder of Skin Techniques – Below she details 7 surprising facts about botox you may not have known…
It can treat migraines & headaches
One approved use of botox, is for the treatment of migraines. Studies have shown that having regular botox treatments can dull or reduce the number of chronic headaches and migraines. It is injected into specific areas where it causes those muscles to relax and help reduce pain.
Prevent Excessive Sweating
For those who experience extreme and uncomfortable sweating, botox can be used to treat excessive sweating. It’s injected into the sweat glads to temporarily block the nerves that stimulate sweat glands.
Pain Management
Many people use botox for pain management. Conditions such as bruxism (teeth grinding) may be treatable with botox, as it can prevent you from clenching your jaw and relaxes the muscles.
Skin boosting benefits
Botox can also be used as a micro fusion facial treatment, using a patented nano technology and technique to deliver a specific dilution of botulinum toxin, which also can be mixed with a bespoke meso therapeutic cocktail for truly personalised treatments, to areas of the face that cannot be treated with conventional techniques. While still allowing full movement of the muscle this treatment nourishes and relaxes the skin to give a smooth elevated look. Skin-Tox improves the tone and texture, whilst stimulating collagen and hydrating the skin. Clients see an improvement in their overall appearance and a reduction in open pores and scaring, softer smoother skin texture, Reduction in general flushing and redness, plump thin skin – especially around the eyes, to address crepe-like tone of fragile skin, reduce tiny fine lines and wrinkles.
It can be used as a preventative treatment
A frozen face is not the goal, after all youthful faces move! If you’re considering preventative botox when you first start to notice the signs of ageing, ensure you choose a practitioner who helps you achieve your goals whilst also maintaining your natural appearance. The “one size fits all” approach does not work in botulinum toxin treatment. All Injectors should be familiar with the basic contraction patterns of each muscle group so that they can personalise the injection pattern for each patient, thereby achieving more natural results and using a smaller amount of botulinum toxin to help avoid the aftermath of incorrectly placed Botox. Less is more! At Skin Techniques, I always book a two week post treatment follow up appointment to ensure my patients are happy with their results.
There are risks
At least one in six patients suffer from side effects post-treatment including; Blurred or double vision, Headache, Scars, Reduced facial movement, Allergic reactions, Swelling around the injection site, and Nausea to name a few. To help prevent any of the mention complications it is imperative botox is administered correctly using the licensed dose. Using an excessively high dose will result in lack of expression and may result in Brow and/or Eyelid Ptosis giving an unnatural appearance.
It can save you time & money
Botox has become so popular due to the ease of popping in for a quick lunchtime treatment. It is also a treatment that can be administered within minutes with no downtime enabling people to carry on with their day, seeing results as early as three to four days after their procedure. Botox can also save patients money on other skin care procedures, like facials and different types of facial surgery or wrinkle treatments. It is easy to budget for and can save you money on more expensive treatments in the future.
